Over 50 years ago scientists discovered that some plants, particularly wheat and beans, contained specific inhibitors of alpha amylases. (Alpha amylase the enzyme found in our saliva helps turn starch we eat into sugars which are then stored in the body as fat.) It wasn't until the early 1970s that studies were conducted to determine the specific starch neutralizing ability of the plants. Later this inhibitor of alpha-amylase was purified and extracted from kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). The newest and improved form of this extract is Phaseolamin 2250TM. Studies conducted on Phaseolamin 2250tm found that it is a specific alpha amylase inhibitor (J Biol Chem, 250(20): 8030-8037, 1975). It seems to delay dietary starch digestion when taken prior to a meal.
Victoria Morton’s Carb Stopper now contains Phaseolamin 2250TM. It is believed that, due to the extract possibly causing a temporary malabsorption of dietary starches, it also enables undigested dietary starches to go through the system without converting to “calories”.
Tests have demonstrated that 1 gram of this powerful standardized extract "neutralizes" over 560 grams of dietary starch, or over 2,250 starch calories. In a recent study Phaseolamin was shown clinically to reduce the conversion of dietary starch to glucose (sugar) by an average of 57%. No side effects were reported even at the 1.5 gram level. Carb Stopper also contains Gymnema sylvestre extract.
Each capsule of Victoria Morton’s Carb Stopper contains 300 mg of Phaseolamine 2250TM, 50 mg of Gymnema sylvestre, 0.25 mg of vanadyl sulfate and 1.0 mg of chromium polynicotinate. It is estimated that each capsule of Carb Stopper will inhibit over 600 starch (sugar) calories from converting into fat.
